Arijit Banerji

Arijit Banerji studied at The Doon School and St Xavier’s College, Calcutta. He worked at ICI and Haldia Petrochemicals and retired to Dehra Dun in 1999. He was managing trustee of the JMMT for 10 years and since stepping down from the Board, is a JMMT patron. He is also a member of the Friends of the Doon Society and on the board of SOIR-IM. He recently retired from the Board of the Welham Girls School.

Neelu Khanna, Managing Trustee John Martyn Memorial Trust, Secretary Aasraa Trust

Neelu, a qualified teacher & travel trade executive, left the corporate world to pursue hr dream of working with the underserved. A social activist, she has been working for educational opportunity for economically deprived children for the last 20 years. Based in Dehradun, she organized cancer screening camps for the underprivileged, volunteered with Raphael for 3 years and now supports several projects which work with children from poor backgrounds with John Martyn Memorial Trust, Udayan and HindSka Trust.

A qualified teacher, she co-initiated Street Smart, a project of Aasraa Trust. Aasraa Trust, started in 2009, fulfils the educational, nutritional & medical needs of 2150 street and slum children. A centre for NIOS, Aasraa is now focussing on skills training for older children to enable them to live a life of dignity.

Neelu is a Board Member of the Welham Girls’ School.

Dilsher Singh Virk

Mr Dilsher Virk, son of Mady Martyn, the Founder of the John Martyn Memorial School, was born at Bombay in 1943. He was educated at the Doon School in Dehradun where he completed his Higher School Certificate (HSc). He graduated with Honours in Mechanical Engineering from the Imperial College (London University) in 1967. At that time he moved to Canada where he has been working as a software engineer, and latterly a consultant, till his retirement in 2010. His specialization is in Geomatics and Cadastral Mapping.

Mr. Virk was a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta for over 20 years.

He is a current member and past president of the Rotary Club of Victoria – Harbourside. Some initial projects of the JMMTrust were funded by this Rotary Club.

Indira Bhagat

​Indira is an architect, qualified from SPA, Delhi, a landscape & Interior Design Consultant, practicing since 1971 – mainly in Calcutta, Madras & Dehradun. She is a co-founder & secretary of the Khela Productions Trust, set up for the promotion of performing arts.

Founder & Chairperson of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of India (MNDAI), to benefit & counsel MND/ALS sufferers of India. The late, Lady Sue Ryder & the late, Stephen Hawking have been inspirational as life-time Board members of the MNDAI. Indira is a Member of the India International Centre, New Delhi and a former trustee of the Lal C Verman Research & Education Trust for Standardisation (now known as Bureau of Indian Standards).

She has been serving on the JMM School Trust, her main interests are in widening & deepening the children’s educational perspective while creatively enhancing the school’s infrastructure.

Rahul Bhagat

Recognised by The Asian Banker on their List of Leading Practitioners, Mr Rahul N Bhagat is a versatile Consumer Banking professional with close to 3 decades of experience.

Mr Bhagat began his career as a management trainee at ANZ Grindlays Bank (1989-1997) before joining Bank of America as Vice President (1997-1999). When BankAm sold their consumer banking portfolios across numerous Asian markets, Mr Bhagat joined HDFC Bank where he spent the next 16 years (1999-2015) playing a significant role in building the retail banking practice into a dominant market leadership position. As Country Head – Retail Liabilities, Marketing & Direct Banking Channels, Mr Bhagat reported to the CEO for 10 years and was a member of the Senior Leadership Team. He thereafter partnered Vodafone India Ltd in successfully applying for a Payments Bank licence in 2015 and was appointed CEO (designate) of the proposed bank.

During his extensive banking career, Mr Bhagat’s contribution and leadership has been recognised through invitation to numerous Boards and Committees, including: Standing Committee on Retail Banking, Indian Bank’s Association; Executive Committee – National Securities Depository Limited; Customer Global Advisory Board, NCR Corp (USA); Global Advisory Board, Diebold Inc (USA); and Member of Indian Public Schools’ Society.

Mr Bhagat is also actively involved in the fields of education and heritage conservation. He is a Member of the Board of Governors of The Doon School and a Founder Director of the World Monuments Fund India Association.

Padmini Sambhasivam

Mrs. Padmini Sambasivam, is the Principal, Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun. A brilliant student she is a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship. She graduated with a Major in Zoology, from Stella Maris College, and Master’s degree in Environmental Toxicology, from the Post Graduate Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University Of Madras. Soon after she was awarded an MPhil in Genetics & her B.Ed & MA in Education.
A keen debator, Mrs.Sambasivam trained as a solo pilot under the NCC Air Wing and is an avid trekker and adventure enthusiast. She is the recipient of several awards and honours, ‘The Distinguished Service Award’, ‘Exemplary Leadership Award’ and ‘Best teacher Award’, to mention a few.

Mrs. Sambasivam was the founder Principal of Arsha Vidya Mandir. In the year 2010, Mrs. Sambasivam moved to the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia where she worked in the capacity of Director, Academics, for The PEEVEES Group, who run a chain of schools in all major cities of Saudia Arabia. She worked there for 6 years before moving to Dehradun to take over as Principal, Welham Girls’ School.
Her work can be best summed up by the testimony she received from the MD, Mr. Jaber A. Wahab. “PEEVEES group of Schools Honors S.PADMINI for her path breaking efforts in bringing contemporary teaching & learning across the group schools and leading the Academic team towards new frontiers in education.”

Matthew began teaching in the UK in 1995 before exploring the world by taking up teaching and school leadership positions in Austria, Canada, Singapore, Spain and Germany before moving to Dehradun in 2016. He is committed to education as a means of bringing about social change and is delighted to work for a school with a mission to find and develop exceptional boys from all backgrounds to serve a meritocratic India.
